WORKSHOP | Safra, in the Judeo–Arabic dialect of Iraqi Jews, means to go on a journey. In this workshop I will teach a few of the sacred melodies that accompanied my family’s journey from Iraq to Myanmar, India, Borneo, Singapore, and finally Australia, which were lovingly imparted to me. We will explore the beautiful traditional sounds of Iraqi​​​​–Jewish musical culture and learn how to apply these melodies to contemporary congregations and community singing circles.
