Type 1 diabetes affects 120,000 young Australians and 21 million worldwide, with daily insulin needed to control sugar levels. But new stem cell therapies are a possible means of overcoming the need for insulin administration. This session will discuss the science and halacha of using such cells, as well as the arrangements between an Australian consortium and the Israeli company Kadimastem Ltd examining the suitability of a device for clinical use.
