Seeing the Holocaust: artists' responses to the Shoah

This session will review artists’ responses to the Holocaust, commencing with art from the ghettos, concentration camp artists, and art created by survivors. Later we look at the New York abstract expressionists of the 1960s, Israeli artists, and contemporary artists in Australia and around the world. Some works use irony, satire, and pastiche, testing the limits of respect and good taste. We will ask the tricky question: what is appropriate and respectful Holocaust art?
