Warrior heroines in the Bible
Our collective memory is replete with the Tanakh's violent stories of war and conquest executed by men. In these stories, the role of women is often marginal and they are mostly presented as victims. So it might come as a surprise to learn that several heroines—deadly female protagonists—kill the enemy’s hero. In this session we will engage in a gender and feminist reading of the stories of these Biblical heroines.

So I'm married to a Rabbi ...
A light-hearted exploration of what it’s like to be the ‘other (better?) half’ of a Rabbinic couple. Join us to hear the inside story directly from the partners of our local leaders. Did they know what they were signing up for before leaping into the relationship? How do they balance their private and their public lives? We can promise some banter and a few never-before-heard stories from the wo/man behind the pulpit.

FILM + JIFF Q&A | Forty years after her death, Golda Meir's image is still polarising and clouded by controversy. This Australian premiere of the feature-length film Madam Prime Minister, shown exclusively at Limmud Oz, delicately stitches together archival footage and intimate interviews.  Viewers are invited to walk in Meir’s iconic shoes and re-examine her groundbreaking and dramatic years as the first and only female prime minister of Israel. Young, Jewish, and millennial
Today’s younger generation does not fit neatly into the old pigeon-holes that shaped the Jewish baby boomers. They are looking for new ways to express their identity, embracing social justice concerns outside the community organisations run by their parents. This panel will explore:
  • what they are looking for in their Jewish connections
  • what differences they see between themselves and their parents’ generation
  • who or what is nourishing their sense of Jewish belonging
