Ryan has been active in a wide range of Jewish communal organisations for many years. Professionally he is a clinical psychologist with a passion for mental health and he presents regularly at conferences around Australia. Ryan was part of the New Israel Fund Australia's fourth cohort of Naomi Chazan Fellows in 2018–19. The Fellowship is a year-long program involving in-depth exploration of Israeli societal, cultural, and political issues.
